His & Hers – Alice Feeney
There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means someone is always lying.
Anna Andrews finally has what she wants. Almost. Sheβs worked hard to become the main TV presenter of the BBCβs lunchtime news, putting work before friends, family, and her now ex-husband. So, when someone threatens to take her dream job away, sheβll do almost anything to keep it.
When asked to cover a murder in Blackdownβthe sleepy countryside village where she grew upβAnna is reluctant to go. But when the victim turns out to be one of her childhood friends, she canβt leave. It soon becomes clear that Anna isnβt just covering the story, sheβs at the heart of it.
DCI Jack Harper left London for a reason, but never thought heβd end up working in a place like Blackdown. When the body of a young woman is discovered, Jack decides not to tell anyone that he knew the victim, until he begins to realise he is a suspect in his own murder investigation.
One of them knows more than they are letting on. Someone isnβt telling the truth. Alternating between Anna’s and Jack’s points of view, His & Hers is a fast-paced, complex, and dark puzzle that will keep readers guessing until the very end.
My Review of His & Hers
When I was approached to review His & Hers by the publisher I literally JUMPED at the chance. I read Sometimes I Lie back in 2018 and it was one of the reads of the year for me. The twists and turns were absolutely CRAZY GOOD and I thought it was fabulous!
So now after reading His & Hers I will dub Ms. Feeney the Queen of the TWIST! This woman knows how to write a psychological thriller!
Anna is a TV presenter, struggling with the trauma of her past. When she is called out to report on a murder crime scene she comes across her ex-husband Jack. Alternating between her and Jack’s viewpoints, their past is slowly unraveled and when more people start showing up dead, they realise that Anna may be next. But can either of them be trusted?
I just love the atmosphere she creates in this book. Dark and intense, she weaves an intricate web and you have no choice but to get caught in it.
Talk about unreliable narrators! I find it so much fun to read from characters perspectives that are not at all trustworthy! Who is telling the truth? What secrets do they hide?
Unfortunately, I admit that I did figure out the big twist – I really hate it when that happens! I really enjoy being surprised, but I guess because I had read Sometimes I Lie – I knew something big was coming. As it continued I thought I was wrong for a while, but then ultimately gave myself a high-five for getting it. Although this usually irks me, I still enjoyed getting to that point, and was by no means disappointed! There were still a lot of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.
Would I recommend this book?
Yes! Any fan of a psychological thriller should enjoy the twists and turns in this one! See if you can guess the twist!
