Emerald Blaze 2

Emerald Blaze (Hidden Legacy #5) – Ilona Andrews

As Prime magic users, Catalina Baylor and her sisters have extraordinary powersβ€”powers their ruthless grandmother would love to control. Catalina can earn her family some protection working as deputy to the Warden of Texas, overseeing breaches of magic law in the state, but that has risks as well. When House Baylor is under attack and monsters haunt her every step, Catalina is forced to rely on handsome, dangerous Alessandro Sagredo, the Prime who crushed her heart.

The nightmare that Alessandro has fought since childhood has come roaring back to life, but now Catalina is under threat. Not even his lifelong quest for revenge will stop him from keeping her safe, even if every battle could be his last. Because Catalina won’t rest until she stops the use of the illicit, power-granting serum that’s tearing their world apart.

My Review of Emerald Blaze

I have been reading and listening to a LOT of heavy sci-fi/fantasy lately and I needed a bit of a break. When I got a notification that my pre-order of Emerald Blaze on audible was available I was in between audiobooks and thought it was a fantastic time to get away from the heavy stuff for a while and continue the saga of Catalina and Alessandro!

You really need to read the first 4 books in the series to fully comprehend what is going on in this magical world. When we last left this story, Alessandro had just dumped Catalina and BROKE HER HEART! But of course we knew that he would be back. And the world is about to end again!

Emerald Blaze

I love the Baylor family, I really do. I love Nevada. The first few books with Connor were part of the reason I adore the husband and wife duo Ilona Andrews so much. But Alessandro…. I just can’t bring myself to like him.

Maybe it was the narrator… Maybe it was the story… Whatever it was, I just don’t like him. Sure, he has grown up from the first book, matured. But I just didn’t buy it. The romance was no FUN! I am so used to FUN from Ilona Andrews. But it was predictable.

Catalina is a great character! And her power! WOW! I wish she could have found someone different. There was just a lot of pining and LONGING, way more than I am used to even for these authors who are pretty good at the slow burn romance *Kate Daniels*.

What redeemed it for me was the usual fantastic storyline, action-packed scenes, twists and turns and of course cameoes by Nevada and Connor!

Would I recommend Emerald Blaze?

It was a fantastic way to get my mind off life for a while. Absolutely start with the first book in the series. It is such a fun series to get into. It has everything! Romance, adventure, action, violence, gore, fun, magic, laughs, sorrow, hilarity… This one just wasn’t my favourite in the series.

Still 4 stars though, its still darn good!

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

I purchased Emerald Blaze at my own expense on audible.com
