Counting Creatures – Julia Donaldson and Illustrated by Sharon King-Chai
A gorgeous lift-the-flap counting game that pairs parent animals with their babies, from the bestselling author of Room on the Broom.
From a bat and its pup, to a frog and its twelve tadpoles, young readers will delight in counting each creature’s babies and learning unusual scientific names for young animals. With rhyming text, lift-the-flaps and peekaboo holes, and a surprise search-and-find element, this is a read-aloud delight and preschool must-have.
My Review of Counting Creatures
I reviewed Animalphabet a while ago and was BLOWN AWAY by the beautiful illustrations of Sharon King-Chai! With Julia Donaldson it is a children’s book-author-match made in heaven! I ADORE that book, and was so excited to find this one at my door!
Dare I say Counting Creatures is EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL!? With its beautiful colours, gorgeous fold out pages and fun story it is sure to have your kids reading it over and over!
The story has the kids counting the cute animal babies and then going back to find all the spider-babies hidden in the book at the end. I know it says it’s for kids aged 3-5, however, my nearly 7-year-old absolutely LOVED it too and made me read it to him 10 times!
What did my kids think?
They both thought it was awesome. My little 3-year-old was more captivated than the older one, but she loves beautiful things and babies, and she is getting good at counting now so was excited to do the counting on every page.
Would I recommend Counting Creatures?
YES! Each page is just so beautiful and colourful. My only criticism is that I am too afraid the kids will destroy it if I leave them alone with it!
I will be buying more copies for my family and friends with young kids.
