When Stars Collide (Chicago Stars #9) – Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Olivia Shore, international opera superstar, is a driven diva with a passion for perfection, a craving for justice, too many secretsβand a monumental grudge against the egotistical, lowbrow jock sheβs been stuck with.
Itβs Mozart meets Monday Night Football as the temperamental soprano and stubborn jock embark on a nationwide tour promoting a luxury watch brand. Along the way, the combatants will engage in soul-searching and trash talk, backstage drama and, for sure, a quarterback pass. But theyβll also face trouble as threatening letters, haunting photographs, and a series of dangerous encounters complicate their lives. Is it the work of an overzealous fan or something more sinister?
This is the emotional journey of a brilliant woman whose career is everything and a talented man whoβll never be happy with second place.Β Tender and funny, passionate and insightful, this irresistible romantic adventure proves that anything can happenβ¦when two superstars collide.Β
My Review of When Stars Collide
Reading Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Chicago Stars series is a spicy little secret obsession of mine. I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi. A lot of thrillers and a lot of weird books. But sometimes I just like to curl up with a bottle of wine and a saucy-sexy-sweet romance. I am not a football fan or claim to know anything about Americal football AT ALL, but I love these books!
I love this series! Match Me If You Can especially, still remains one of my top 5 books of ALL TIME! And it is great to see that Susan Elizabeth Phillips still knows how to write a lovely romance! She has been writing since before I was born!
The Chicago Stars series continues when football star Thad and opera-singer diva Olivia are stuck together promoting fancy watches on a tour. However there is much more too it than that. Olivia is hiding a secret, and someone is out to hurt her. And she has good reason to HATE Thad! Sparks collide when these stars to, and it is not always nice ones!
I love the slow burn loathing to romance that Susan Elizabeth Phillips is famous for – I appreciate that she changes with the times too. I have found a lot of this series to be quite sexist, but those were the earlier ones in earlier times, and I still enjoyed them. This one thankfully seems to show her writing style has matured along with the years. Although there were a few cringy moments, it was a far cry from the co-dependent characters well known of the genre.
I always wanted to be an opera singer, so I especially enjoyed this one with Olivia the soprano. I loved all the singing and opera storyline and I got swept away… however.. It was about 100 pages too long and WHAT THE HELL happened at the end there!??
It could have ended nicely where it SHOULD have ended. Instead for some reason the characters both went off and did absolutely uncharacteristic STUPID things. It TOTALLY RUINED the whole story for me. And in fact turned what was becoming a 4.5 star book down to 3. Such a shame. It had so much potential. If it had just ended earlier I would have LOVED it. Sigh.
Romance fans will enjoy this one, however you may need to block out the 100 pages at the end out of your memory.
