Poison Study

Poison Study (Study #1) – Maria V. Snyder

Choose: A quick death… or slow poison…

About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She’ll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palaceβ€”and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.

And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly’s Dustβ€”and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.

As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can’t control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren’t so clear…Β

My Review of Poison Study

So, I am super late to this Snyder-party! I REALLY enjoyed this one! And it is the first I have read from this author! I guess though the good thing about that is that I have a LOT of books to catch up on!

Yelena is set for death and given a last second reprieve to be the commanders food tester, tasting his food for poisons. A dangerous job to be certain, but Yelena is extremely bright and discovers that she may be more than just a food-taster after all.

Loved it! Well written and I had a lot of trouble putting it down! Looked at the clock and it was 3am! And STILL kept on reading! Worth the night of little sleep!

However… Still only getting 4 stars from me. There just wasn’t enough romance! I loved what did happen, don’t get me wrong… But in the lead up I felt very little spark between the characters and wished that there would have been even more of a build-up…

But, fantastic and clever story! Great writing and enthralling at times. I am so excited to start the second one. And hopefully third and fourth etc.

I read Poison Study on Kindle Unlimted at my own expense.

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)
