I’m really starting to enjoy doing these blog tours. They are opening my eyes to books that I probably wouldn’t have read otherwise and I am really enjoying finding new authors. Plus YA is totally a guilty pleasure of mine.

MY REVIEW OF EERIE
This was quite a difficult book to review. The 16 year old in me absolutely loved it! However the 33 year old found it not quite as enjoyable.
Hailey and her sister HollyΒ are living out their lives when suddenly Holly goes missing. Presumed dead. Hailey then goes to university on her own, something they had planned to do together. There, she comes in contact with Asher, who she had met before in her dreams, and discovers her old friend Fin is also at the university. Asher is a ‘creature’ that has fallen in love with her through their contact in the dreams. He is also supposed to kill her. The university itself is akin to Hogwarts with its teachings of magic and the supernatural. Except is WAY weirder, and deals with a few more adult themes.
I only had one small problem with the novel, the love triangle with Hailey andΒ the two main male characters. Now,Β I understand one of the main drawcards of YA adults is usually a heart wrenching love triangle, so I was expecting one. I don’t like love triangles in general, they are a pet peeve of mine. Sometimes they can be pulled off in a good way that I like, sometimes they dont. This one didn’t work for me unfortunately. They both treat her badly, they both toy with her emotions and humiliate her, one of them pretty much physically assaults her and was involved in the death of her sister. Yet she is still MADLY in love with both of them. I didn’t buy the attraction she had with either character.
The book starts off in one direction, and you think you get a feel for what its about. I quite enjoyed the first part of the book. But as soon as she heads off to University it abruptly changes. It becomes a bit disjointed and at times I struggled to understand what was happening. It was incredibly strange at times, not in a bad way mind you! Just totally different than what I was expecting, and that was quite refreshing at times.
I enjoyed some of the secondary characters. I loved the budding friendship between Hailey and her flatmate Giselle. I also really liked all the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. A lot of them resonated with me and I really enjoyed readingΒ them!
Eerie was well written and quite quirky and fun in places. Great for a debut! The series holds a lot of promise!
Many thanks to the author via YA Bound book tours for a copy of Eerie in exchange for my honest review.
