After the Night. Linda Howard is yet another one of my favourite authors who knows how to write a suspenseful romance!! She is another one of my guilty pleasures. I love her books. The romance is always really wonderful, and there is always lots of action and suspense. After the Night is no different.
When she was 14, Faiths mother ran off with the wealthy Guy Rouillard. In a fit of rage, Guys son Gray kicks Faith and her family out of town with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Faith returns over a decade later, now a successful woman with a bit of a chip on her shoulder. She is determined to track down Guy and clear her and her families reputation.
What she doesn’t realise is that Gray remembers her instantly, and is determined to run her out of town again. But they are both older now, and things get complicated when sparks fly…
The feminist in me hates alpha males with too much strength and money, walking all over the poor vulnerable females. Usually I cringe when the man is all powerful, able to pick the woman up with one arm whilst she is doing the dishes and rubbing his feet… But there is something about certain romance books (or authors) that just makes it work for me. Instead of cringing, I get caught up in it. This is one of those books. Gray is a total dipshit, who you would never be happy with in real life, but damn… Reading him being a bastard to Faith totally works. And I’m almost ashamed to admit it!
The main thing that didn’t work for me in this book was that the twist was SO TOTALLY PREDICTABLE from the very start. I knew who did it, I knew what was going to happen. But I still enjoyed the ride!
