My Review of the Sun Down Motel
I know, I know! IM ON A READING BAN!!!! Naughty Mel!!! My daughter is sick today and I have been cuddled up with her watching Frozen 2 three times so I had to do SOMETHING with my brain! I couldn’t get out my laptop and study, so kindle it is! And I devoured the whole thing!
In 1982, young Vivian gets a job as the night clerk for cheap and crappy hotel called The Sun Down Motel in the small town of Fell. Soon she discovers that the guests are not the only occupants of this hotel. Something haunts the Sun Down, and Viv is going to find out what is going on.
In 2017, Carly makes her way to Fell following her mother’s death. Her Aunt Vivian disappeared without a trace over thirty years prior, and she wants to see if she can solve the mystery. What happened to Vivian? What haunts the hotel? And will Carly be next?
This was a great little thriller! I really enjoyed the different time frames with different chapters and how they are weaved together. It was cleverly crafted and the pace moved quickly, but not jarringly so.
Although Ioved all the characters – I wish that there would have been a touch more with the romance in both time frames. Perhaps some more witty dialogue between the love interests, or something to build up the tension a bit more. It just felt a little lacklustre. But still such an enjoyable read to escape reality for a while!
I really enjoyed how it was a story about a haunted hotel, but thats not what the entire storyline was about. It was intricate and exciting. Unfortunately I guessed the twist/s from long before the pages ended, but that didn’t take away the enjoyment of the story for me. It was a captivating and exciting little thriller with horror elements and I think most thriller fans would enjoy it, as long as they don’t mind a couple of PISSED OFF scary ghosts!
